Home again, home again

Updated: Sep 10, 2019

My father had a signature phrase that he uttered every time we arrived home after a family trip, "Home again, home again, jiggety jig." He would never explain why he was so keen on a phrase plucked from a nursery rhyme and only when I was older was I able to get the inside story from my mother.

I learned that my father was shuffled between relatives after his mother passed away. From childhood through adulthood, he had no place to call home. He was always in someone else's home. I would never have learned this information from my father who only focused on fun and victorious moments in family history. And I never brought it up with him.

I went forward with a special appreciation of having a place to call home and I looked forward to his jiggety phrase at the end of family trips. I now find myself uttering the jiggety phrase, at least in my head if not verbally, when I land at my own home after long absences.

So when I decided to retire from an engineering career and pursue home decor retail, I knew the business name had be a nod to the power of going Home Again!

Proprietor, Home Again

To market, to market, to buy a fat pig,

Home again, home again, jiggety-jig.

To market, to market, to buy a fat hog,

Home again, home again, jiggety-jog.

To market, to market, to buy a plum bun,

Home again, home again, market is done. (1)
